I bought some new toys for my pending trip through Nepal for a month. A Compact Drive PD70x storage device and a SunLinq 6.5 solar panel. Read on for a short explanation. I will be writing up a review once I come back from Nepal. My pending trip through Nepal was incentive enough to buy some new toys. I have been meaning to buy a Compact Drive PD70x for quite a while. This little device allows me to plug a camera memory card into it, push a button, and suck all the images onto a laptop hard-drive built into the device. I can then delete the images from the Flash card and continue snapping away. It is much cheaper to get a storage device than to get the equivalent storage in Flash memory cards.
My reason for choosing the PD70x was the devices use of the standard AA batteries. A lot of other devices used proprietary batteries. This requirement may be dimmed somewhat with my second toy.
I also purchased a SunLinq 6.5V solar panel. This device has a cigarette lighter adapter you can plug other devices into to get power from. So I also bought a AA/AAA battery charger, and am waiting for an adapter for my camera battery recharger.
In retrospect, I could have not worried about the AA batteries for the storage device as long as it could be re-charged from a cigarette lighter plug. Oh well.
